I'm thinking of making preserved artichokes, and am looking for a source for cheaper bulk artichokes. They wouldn't need to be state fair beauties, as I'll be trimming off most of the leaves anyway.

Any suggestions? I'm in Cambridge, but would make a trip for a good discount...

When I think of bulk, I think Haymarket.
Russo's had big ones this weekend for $1.99/lb and "baby" (which are much bigger and more mature than the early season true baby artichokes) at $2.99/lb. for points of comparison.

That sounds good- are they open to the public? I found a couple of companies based there, but wasn't sure if there is one general market, or just the wholesale companies.
I would guess they're open early mornings, but are they open on weekends at all?
I have vague memories of going to a wholesale market when I was a little kid in Houston, and there it was a giant hall with stalls.

As I understand it it is wholesale, but if you walk up they sell to anyone. Not like they ask for ID or anything. Minimum purchase is one case (box) of anything. I think they are open Saturday too, but not Sunday. Open VERY early in the a.m. Starts at about 6:00 and done by 10:00am.
