Any good gourmet stores in/around the Tanglewood area to get delicious nibbles for a light (pre-dinner) picnic? Always happy to go to the Big Y in Great Barrington, but was hoping for something a little quainter...

There is a Guido's literally next door to the Big Y in Great Barrington. The Big Y has been recently expanded and you may find some of the stuff there you used to look for in more selective stores. In any event, my wife and I combine the Big Y (more every day items) and Guido's (higher end items, including meats and prepared foods) for our Tanglewood picnics. In the same shopping center as the Big Y there is Grape Finds, where you can find some nice, inexpensive wine from typically small producers. A more traditional (and, in my view, very good and fairly priced) wine and cheese shop is Nejaimes in Stockbridge on your way to Tanglewood from GB.

Great to know that the Big Y expansion is complete! I was last there when it was halfway done - and have always wondered about Guidos. Since we're planning to get our wine from Grape Finds anyway, I think we have a nice one-stop shop lined up. (Though I still intend to check out the Marketplace kitchen too.) Thanks for all the tips.

There a number of places right in Lenox or just past Lenox, if I recall correctly. Guido's is also a few miles past Lenox on the way to Pittsfield, I think. There is a Nejaimes in Lenox, too. I wonder if you could do take out from one of the terrific restaurants like Church Street or something.
