Where can I buy the Yemenite spice Hawaj? I tried at Zabars, Fairway, and a Kosher store and nobody seems to have heard of it.

  1. Pereg brand hawaj seems to be available in all the kosher stores in Brooklyn

I know it as Haaj Marak-meaning "for soup" It is often sold as "spices for soup" and I do put a little in my chicken soup and it adds great flavor. It has a strong turmeric flavor and color so you need to be a little light handed with it, but I also use it in my cholent and sometimes on grilled chicken. It provides a real nice little kick to chicken soup and gives a real middle eastern flavor to grilled dishes. I would definitely recommend trying it.

      2. Where do you live? They have in at ZION in Boro Park, if you are in Queens, Amalya, Pereg, A to Z, and Issacs, in Great Neck Everfresh and Shop Delight.
