Dinner before an IronPigs game

One of my Father's Day gifts was an IronPigs game with my daughter. We're looking for some recommendations for dinner before the 7pm game. A brew pub with good bar food and some interesting draft offerings would be great.

Werts Cafe - Best burgers in Allentown and onion straws that are killer!

Off Catasaqua Road (which intersects Airport Road @ Rte 22) are two good spots. Primo Hoagies (a chain that makes super subs with bread brought up each day from Philly) & a bar called the Beef Baron, that has great pub food and good selection of cold beer. Try the hot beef sandwich w/ fresh horseradish.

We went to the game last night and had a fun time. Went to the Allentown Brew Works before the game. Parked right in front of the place. It was not very crowded when we got there at about 6pm, but was about 1/2 filled when we left. Nice selection of brews with a decent menu of pub food. One warning for anyone who's not been to an IronPigs game and has seats in the right field corner - be sure to have a baseball cap and sunglasses, the sun is directly opposite those seats!

          UPDATE:

We went last night & had a ball. For anyone living reasonably near Allentown, I would highly suggest an Iron Pigs game as a family activity. You sure can't beat the price. Next time, because we had very little children with us, I might even consider the lawn seats in the outfield. The stadium is awesome; the level of play is very good, prices are dirt cheap, and they even have a tram shuttle than can take you from your car to the gate -- something my DIL appreciated with the kids & a double stroller.

Anyway, one of the nurses who works with my son suggested a place called Grumpy's BBQ Roadhouse. It's about 10-15 minutes away from the stadium, depending on traffic, and was a great place to go, especially with the little kids. Was it the best BBQ I've ever had? No, but it was good. My DH, a real wing man, was even able to get past the BBQ sauce on the smokey wings, to rave about them -- he's not a big fan of BB sauce. I was able to download a $25 certificate from restaurant.com to make the dinner even more attractive. It looks as though the place can get packed, but we got there at 5, wanting to allow plenty of time before the game. We pretty much had the place to ourselves until people started coming by ther droves at 5:30-6:00.

Here's the link. The only real negative was that the service was really slow, even making allowances for a party of 8. http://www.grumpysbbq.net/

If you want a brewpub then I would recommend Allentown BrewWorks - Good food and good brews. You will need GPS to get to the ballpark from there even though it is only a couple of miles. http://www.thebrewworks.com/allentown-brewworks/

Closer to the stadium is a sports bar that is called the Pig Pen Sports Bar and Lounge They have a decent menu (I can't vouch for the food but my adult children like it there) http://www.pigpensportsbar.com/

There are also a number of restaurants on Airport Road South on the way to the stadium. Checkers, Red Robin, Copperhead Grille are all decent places with cold beer and decent food. There is also a good Japanese Restaurant, Ichabon, and a very American tex-mex place in the shopping center opposite the westbound airport road south exit.

i am actually going to an iron pigs game tomorrow !!!! a-town breworks is good, as is checkers (ok). the red robin in allentown is not really that great, but maybe if your using 309 you can go to it in saucon valley at the promenade. i would not recommend copperhead grille!!! the food there sounds excellent on the menu descriptions, but it has no flavor at all. very bland food and weird lighting as well. i think stahleys is probably what you are looking for. but again , if you are travelling 309, you may want to go to starters too. they have good beers and good food. i do think the best place for a family to go is the pigpen on union blvd. it has fun things for the kids to do and it really adds to the whole ironpigs experience. hopw you have fun!

Ha Ha. I just bought Ironpigs tix for my whole family: Thursday night, July 2nd. 6 adults and 2 very small kiddies. 2 adults & the kidlettes are coming from Reading -- not sure if they are dinner candidates, so it will probably be just 4 adults. Any recommendations for dinner before the 7 PM game (in addition to Stahley's) would be welcome. We'll be coming from Ft. Washington, perhaps by way of 309 if there is a good resto along there. Otherwith NE Extension.

And by the way, there's nothing wrong with Rolling Rock. It could always be Iron City.

I haven't been, but know many people who have been to the ballpark and they all say that the food there is very good.

For me part of the baseball experience is eating at the ballpark.

After a recent IronPigs game, DW and I enjoyed a meal at Stahley's. Bar food plus LV atmosphere. Doubt you'd be disappointed, though we were drinking Rolling Rock. 1826 Hanover Ave., Allentown.
