Vegetarians in Vancouver
Travelling to Vancouver in August with 3 vegetarians. Are there any specifically vegetarian restaurants worth trying - that will please the palate of a non-vegetarian foodie?

- Saravanaa Bhavan (South Indian)
- not specifically vegetarian, but you might enjoy Vij's vegetarian dishes, (also Rangoli - Vij's sister resto).
- Radha Yoga (sketchy part of town, but good vegan - which is usually an oxymoron for me)
- Many of the premium restaurants here will prepare a vegetarian dinner if you specifically ask (eg Fuel, Maenam, Boneta, etc)

We like Dharma Kitchen and we are not vegheads :-). There is a lemon grass tofu that is really outstanding, and it's a calm, reflective little space to boot.
Saravanaa Bhavan would be worth checking out too, although it is a chain. The buffets are good value and really tasty, though I'm not usually a buffet person. They bring around fresh naan and puri throughout.
Here's a link to a website that gives some veg/vegan options in Vancouver that might be helpful. If any interest you, post again specifically and maybe we can comments. You will note, for example, the Naam is listed. I really don't care for the food or service there (though others obviously do or it wouldn't be in business) but it is one of the few places left that reflect Kitsilano's bygone hippie days and so for that reason alone might be fun to try.

If you want to go a bit higher end and don't mind a (potential) wait, I've always enjoyed the veg offerings at Vij's, particularly if there is anything that resembles a dumpling listed. His apps are often veg friendly and v. good also. And of course he now has Rangoli next door which is less expensive and can be very tasty.

The Foundation at 2301 Main St. - some people aren't big on the revolutionista hipster doofus stylings, but the food is pretty darned good, and big portions.
I've never had a bad meal at Dharma Kitchen - the rice bowls are my favourite.
Saravanaa Bhavan is good.
Vancouver is known for sushi, and the best vegetarian sushi is at Ajisai at 2081 West 42nd Ave.
A bit pricey, but Chai Gallery at 3243 West Broadway is a buffet option unlike anything you've probably had before. http://www.eastiseast.ca/
Don't bother:
Naam is overrated, sorry to say.
Vij's is better for meat eaters. You can better and cheaper Indian vegetarian food somewhere like Saravanaa.

If you want chinese vegetarian, check these out
Bo Kong - they've been in the business for quite some time, personally I'm not a fan, it's too westernized for my liking.
Bodhi-Homestyle chinese food. Very reasonably priced.
Spicy Veggie - good variety, has thai and malaysian influences. Check out their fried avocados. I couldn't find the address online but it's next to Aberdeen Centre, across from Acura on No. 3 Road.
3G - One of my favorites. Dishes are small but quite tasty.
