I hope this isn't too far off topic!

I have a cheap drinking glass that got stuck in a very nice English pottery cup. Both were in the dishpan (no dishwasher!) soaking in hot water. I could take a hammer to the glass, thus sparing the cup (maybe), but I'd like to save both. Would it help to pour hot water into the glass, or cold?I don't want to make the situation worse by trying the wrong thing. This isn't the biggest deal, but the cup is one of a set. Thanks!

no more hot water - that's the problem!

let them cool first so you don't shatter them by shocking with an extreme temperature change, and then soak in ice water.

If the cold water doesn't do it, try squirting in some dish detergent. Sometimes it adds some "slipperiness" and the stuck dishes pull apart.

It worked! They were already cool and sitting on the drainboard, stuck. I put water in the glass, added some ice cubes, and a few minutes later I was able to lift the glass out of the cup. Again, thanks very much.

Once they both cool, put ice water into the glass. If it doesn't release, then lower the pottery cup into hot water (without letting the hot water touch the glass). You need the differential to get them to separate. Good luck!
