Southern Fried Chicken on Long Island

Now that Cooke's Inn in Huntington has closed, does anyone know of a place on Long Island to satisfy the craving or does one have to venture back into Manhattan?

Looks like you folks really could use some good fried chicken up in your area!
Down here in Palm Beach county, Florida it's available everywhere....I'm really surprised that it's not everywhere up there.....I'm from Long Island and I guess I never really thought about it. Gotta LOVE some fried chicken! :-)

Fried chicken is available everywhere here: at every major supermarket. They pressure fry it and it's not all that bad. I don't even cook it myself anymore, since husband (who is picky) thinks it's fine.

Zorns has great Fried Chicken. Maybe not Southern, but its been around for 75 years and is still my fave. Bethpage, East Meadow and Bellmore. I grew up in Wantagh and I used to go to the original location 45 years ago as a little kid and loved to see the little poultry farm in the back...

Heaven for me was their Fried chicken with their gravy on top, fries, and their home made coleslaw... For Thanksgiving, I loved their stuffing! mmmm zornschicken.com

Before I moved so far away, I always picked up a fresh turkey at Zorns the night before Thanksgiving, and then got fried chicken and ribs for dinner that night. The best of everything...they even used to have Shaller and Weber butter, man I miss those days.

Spicy's in Riverhead and Bellport. Really excellent.

There is a Popeye's in Hempstead where I've gotten consistantly good fried chicken.lot's of customers so fresh batches and good sides.In Hempstead there's also Kennedy's as well as Wing's and Things on the same road Fulton / Hempstead Tpke also crowded parking lots but I never had from them.

(??) The only thing we get at Spicys is their chicken dinner, don't remember if we've ever even tried their wings. Great mac salad and collards come with it. It is a half chicken with perfect breading.

I've always gotten chicken dinners with a half chicken at Spicy's, it's not a wings place.
Their ribs are very popular, too.

But despite considering themselves "BBQ", the ribs are definitely not smoked. They are tasty with a nice glazy barbecue sauce, but it's not true "low and slow over charcoal and wood" barbecue.

But since we're looking for fried chicken, I think this is helpful.Their ribs have always been so-so to me.

I didn't love the ribs. I've read good reviews of them for years. I go for the chicken, period, and never had wings there. :-)

I'm with you. I thought their chicken was pretty good, ribs were just OK; messy/tasty, but texture was too "steam table."

Weird, I've never noticed the fried chicken dinner on the menu (at the Bellport location, anyway), just a big push on the fried wings . Online menu doesn't show it either (but I believe you guys) http://www.allmenus.com/ny/riverhead/...
