Lardo - where to buy in Bay Area

Are there any retailers that carry lardo for the home cook? Specifically in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thanks!

  1. You may want to post in the SF boards to get a more responses.

I'm in VA so I can't help you - But you may want to look on - he talks about some butcher shops north of the Bay.

    1. Try Boccalone in the Ferry Plaza. I've gotten it from them in the past, don't know if they always have it. Or call and ask them if someone else carries their products, if Ferry Plaza isn't convenient for you.

      1. Boccalone, Fatted Calf and Cafe Rouge all sell lardo at times.

Those are the three places I've bought it. Call first to see if they have any on hand.

Fatted Calf is also at the Berkeley and Ferry Plaza farmers markets on Saturdays.

          Cafe Rouge
1782 Fourth St, Berkeley, CA 94710

          Fatted Calf
644-C First Street, Napa, CA 94559

          Boccalone Salumeria
1 Ferry Building # 21, San Francisco, CA

        2. The Pasta Shop in Rockridge in Oakland (and possibly the one on 4th St. in Berkeley) also sells it.

          1. I went into Star Meats in Berkeley about a month ago and they had two kinds (both house-made). I think it was made from the Mangsalita pigs they had in the wintertime. It wasn't in the display case, so you'll have to ask or call ahead.
