Best Black Forest?

Hi Chowhounders!

First time poster here... I'm trying to find the ultimate Black Forest cake for a friend's birthday this Sunday and wondering whether anyone has suggestions. After calling a few bakeries, I finally settled on Premiere Moisson...has anyone tried their Black Forest? I found an old post on Chowhound but *gasp*, no responses! Normally, I'd go to Cocoa Locale and pick up something "beyond delicious" but my friend's favourite is Black Forest, and I don't think the lovely Reema has that on offer this weekend..then again, I'm not bold enough to risk my reputation (haha) and ask for black forest when there's chocolate chai, raspberry rose, or lavender olive oil to choose from...Hope you can help!

I think Costco still makes one. It must feed at least 15-20 people.

My MIL gets a very good black forest from Swiss Vienna Pastry in the WI.

Black forest in general isn't my fave thing so I haven't tried it at a lot of places, never tried it at Premiere Moisson. Good luck!

I agree, Vienna Pastry in Pointe-Claire has the best black forest cake. Very moist and light. We've been going there for over 30 years! (I wouldn't recommend the rest of their cakes though)

What else does that place have? Any interesting breads/baked goods?

They have lots of rye breads, pumpernickels and stuff, but I haven't tried any of them in a long time.

Agreed again. One of those hidden gems.
I used to have a girlfriend whose mum was German and a pastry chef. That's where she went when she didn't DIY.

See my "problem" with Black forest cake is that ultimately, it always taste the same. Cheesecake, chocolate cake, pie, I can't always count on differences or a scale but BF.....Always the same to be.

It used to be my favorite cake as a kid but I quickly got tired of it once I moved to montreal and discovered the best bakeries.
