groceries and seafood in Fenwick, Bethany, Ocean City

We are a group of scientists from the DC area who will be renting a house for a few days on Fenwick Island, DE for a retreat. Part of the game plan is cooking some nice food. This is where I need help. Can folks please point us to the better local grocery options. Also are there any good stores en route from DC (coming across on 50)? Good places to buy produce?

Is there anywhere in Fenwick where we can buy live crabs and other seafoody things? Are there any great (and hopefully reasonably priced) seafood markets that are a bit of a drive away?

Thanks!

    We stay in Bethany Beach and the best grocery options there are Hocker's (we go to the old one in Ocean View) and Harris Teeter; they are very close to each other. BEST fresh seafood by far is at Tom & Terry's. You can hit all of those plus a liquor store in one short trip. The local farmer's markets are fantastic. There is one almost every day of the week in one of the beach communities.

        Hope I'm not too late!

        There are some great gourmet markets in the area (as well as the brand new Harris Teeter mentioned below!) McCabe's Gourmet market in Bethany (www.mccabesgourmet.com) and Fisher Bay in Lewes (www.fisherbaygourmet.com).

        If you're looking for some organic food, we have some local favorites. Good For You Market in Lewes (www.good4uorganic.com) and Good Earth Market in Ocean View (www.goodearthmarket.com

        )

        For produce, we have some really good farmers markets. Here's a link: http://tinyurl.com/mwx9x7. The Historic Lewes Farmers Market and Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market are two local favorites - although you really can't go wrong with any.

        I'm not sure of the prices at these seafood markets, but they may be worth a try: Bluecoast Restaurant has a fish market (www.bluecoastseafoodgrille.com) and there is also South Bethany Seafood Market (www.southbethanyseafood.com). Up Rt. 54 a little ways there is a place to buy crabs too, but I'm not sure of the name.

        Hope this helps! Safe travels and enjoy your visit!

          Blue coast has high quality seafood but expensive. Also love McCabes market in Bethany. Harris Teeter does have fairly good fish and seafood. Good farm markets on route 404 on the way to the beach from DC for fruits and veggies. Also next to McCabes is a good sushi restaurant for eat in or take out.
