Amateur cooking classes / schools

I'm curious if anyone knows of interesting, unusual, great cooking classes / schools / programs in California or nearby. I'm interested in learning something new, as an amateur cook -- just for fun. I was thinking about the raw foods institute up in Fort Bragg (even though I'm not a raw foodist) or the Apple Farm in Anderson Valley, but I'm wondering what else is out there.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

    1. California is a BIG state and there are quite a few cooking/culinary schools. I think you'll have better luck getting some usable information if narrow down the scope and geography of your request.

      Northern CA or Southern CA
      Savory vs. Pastry
How much are you willing to spend
What is *your* definition of "interesting, unusual, great cooking classes"

I was really just hoping to hear from folks who have had *really great* experiences at a particular program. Neither price or location is hugely important (California's big, but it's not that big). The biggest thing, I guess, is that I'm looking for classes that cater to amateurs rather than professional cooks/chefs. I'm really just fishing for inspiration -- a talented teacher, a rarely-taught cuisine, a beautiful location, etc. Thanks!
