Mediterranian / Greek - NYC

Hi, All.

Need some help. I'm putting together a suprise birthday party for my wife. One of her favorite restaurants is Shish-Kebab on the Island. I'm looking for something with a similar flair that's a FUN PLACE. It's going to be 20+ people so I need to make sure it's not a hole in the wall with 2 tables. Any suggestions????

  1. I've never been to Shish-Kebab on LI, so I can't make any comparisons. But our current favorite Greek restaurant is Kellari's Parea, on 20th St., b/t Park Av. S. & B'way. The food is delicious, and service is friendly and efficient. It's a large restaurant with very attractive decor. They can easily accommodate a group the size you are contemplating.

One important caveat: On Friday nights, they have live Greek music. Although that might sound like fun, the problem is that it is UNBEARABLY LOUD, making conversation at the table totally impossible (to say nothing of producing a major headache). It's particularly bad in the rear where the musicians and singer are stationed, which is also where all the large groups are seated.

    1. If you provide neighborhood and price range (food, drinks, tax, tip) preferences it will be easier to provide suggestions.

A recent Greek thread (including a link to a list of Greek restaurants):

IMO, the best Greek food is in Astoria. If you are open to that check the Outer Borough Board.

      1. I am a big fan of Shish-Kebab on LI. I would say that Ali Baba on 34th has a pretty similar menu. It is rather small, but it has great food. They have an outside garden that may be able to hold 20+

        1. Thanks everyone.

I think I've bagged the idea of Greek. Just not enough to choose from. I wish I could do it elsewhere but it's just not an option. I just posted something new which hopefully you can find. I'm open to anything fun in NYC so long as it's big enough, has a good menu, and fun food. Think Asian, Latin, Fusion, etc .......

Maybe Rayuela (Latin) on the LES? Sit upstairs. Not sure how they do groups . . .
