Carrot Cake in Los Angeles?

  • k

I've searched the posts but can't seem to find a consensus...where is the best carrot cake in Los Angeles? I'm near the Farmer's Market/Miracle Mile but will drive up to an hour for a slice that is worth it.
Thanks!

  1. Have you tried Sweet Lady Jane? (8360 Melrose Ave., (323)653-7145) It's close, and while it's been a while, I recall their carrot cake being pretty good.

I know it's a chain restaurant but Claimjumper has some really good carrot cake. It's worth the drive in my humble opinion.

Not much chance to visit Claim Jumper from Santa Monica, but I kind of like the place. The carrot cake is definitely very good.

    2. Have you tried Doughboys on 3rd and La Jolla?

Yes, I've been to Doughboy's a few times, and have been reluctant to try any new desserts there after sampling a horribly dry red velvet cake my first time. Maybe I would have better luck with the carrot cake...

You must have caught it on the worst day possible because I go to Doughboys ESPECIALLY for their moist red velvet cake. Usually it is outstanding. Sorry to hear about your bad experience there but I think that you will be pleased if you give it one more try. As far as the carrot cake, Sweet Lady Jane's is great and the Coral Tree Cafe in Brentwood also has a great carrot cake. I don't like much else there but the carrot cake is definitely worth a try.

Agree -- the three or four times I've sampled the red velvet cake at Doughboys it has been wonderful.

Haven't been in a while, but enjoyed the carrot cake at Greenblaat's on sunset. Believe it's right next to the comedy club.

Agree - completely underwhelmed by Doughboys's cake.

        2. Sweet Lady Jane's has good carrot cake. Also check out Joan's on Third which is on 3rd street in between Sweetzer and Orlando. It is a very basic carrot cake, but my favorite in the city

Tried Sweet Lady Jane's. I vote no on its carrot cake. In fact, I believe the whole place is way overrated. It is too precious and its cakes, while beautiful to look at, are just so-so. Not worth the money in my view.

          2. Good carrot cake to be had at Buttercake bakery on Pico in WLA....tiny place with baked goods made in really small batches so that they really taste homemade..

I have to throw in a strong endorsement for Union Bakery in South Pasadena. Brilliant carrot cake, but call ahead.
