Portland Takeout

I am going to Portland with my DH and baby next weekend and we are looking for good places for takeout for dinner. We are big time foodies and have been to most of the nicer restaurants, but with the baby we can't do the normal restaurant circuit. We are staying downtown near the main drag. Any ideas (other than Duck Fat because we already have that on the schedule) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Another thought: Paciarino: relatively new Italian home-made pasta and, according to the Chow team, to-die-for sauces. I'm pretty sure they do take-out. Only open for dinner-time Th-Sat at the moment; lunch daily.

For the biggest variety of takeout, there's always Whole Foods.

Take a short drive out of town and get take out from the Cheese Iron. Here is what we said on another chowhound entry

"Today for lunch we had a picnic from the Cheese Iron on Route 1 in Scarborough. Our favorite wine merchant in Boston suggested that this was worth a side trip for us and he was right.

Wonderful, memorable, delicious sandwich-- Bella Mortadella. Meat, cheese , a sweet touch with a fruit spread on a great focaccia bread. There were a bunch of sandwiches we would have tried. We also picked up a lovely salad with goat cheese a tomato vinaigrette and dried fruit. It had a little container of olives with it.

And, the cheese selection was wonderful. We picked a Japser Hill clothbound cheddar. It's one of our favorites but this one was presented to us in perfect condition. "

Thanks for the reminder- I have to write an article about them.

Really excellent Brit-Indy takeout from Haggerty's on outer Forest Avenue: the authentic deal, very reasonably priced.

Try Aurora Porvisions, next door to Caiola's.

If you like burritos, try Herbs Gully. Its at 55 Oak St. Best damn, fatty burritos in town.
