The Vault? Ave. Rd.

millygirl Jun 15, 2009 05:34 PM

I've heard about a new place called The Vault on either Avenue Road or Yonge Street, just north of Lawrence. Does anyone know the place? I can't seem to find anything about it.

I posted about this place a few weeks ago and no one replied.
Curious to know what type of food they will be serving.
Something tells me, wine will be involved.
Lots happening on Avenue Road these days.
(ps. the funnel place is opening soon..june 20th? - there is a big sign up)

Hi domesticgodess, what is the funnel place? I used to live in the area but haven't been in some time. I must get back there and check these new spots out. I was under the impression The Vault had already opened up?

The funnel cake and ice cream place is in the old Timothy's Coffee spot on the corner. On the one hand, it's a great summer treat and it's pretty residential around there so I can see it doing well in the summer months. But then again, how many times are you going to have a funnel cake? I'm sure they'll serve coffee/pastries, but still. Can't see this one flying high. And anyway doesn't it take the specialness of CNE and Wonderland away when you can just get it at a store? I don't know, thinking out loud.

The funnel place is where the Second Cup/Great Canadian Bagel used to be. It's called "Funn L Funn" or something equally cheesy. The signs say they have the world's best funnel cakes and will also have waffles, crepes and ice cream.

Seems like a strange spot for a place like this (downtown on the waterfront feels more appropriate), but hey, we'll see.

Does anyone know about the new spot where Locavore used to be? It's called Trillium Bistro (I think) and the signage indicates a focus on local producers. Is it just a new incarnation of Locavore? Or new owners/management/chef?

No, the funnel cake place is where timothy's used to be. At Avenue and Melrose I think. The Vault place is called Vault 20 fifteen, its at the north end of avenue road, near Bruno's . I think its Italian. Looking forward to hearing some reviews!

I went to Vault last Saturday evening. Beautiful room with the wine cellar in the vault and a gorgeous chef's table in full view of the kitchen. Menu is french bistro focused with lots of interesting choices and a thoughtful wine list. The owners were present and sure to take very good care of everyone.

Could you provide some more details? What did you eat, and how much did it cost? Do they have a website?

I stopped my car on my way home, to take a peek.
Looked at the menu and cant say I was blown away by anything.
Looked thru the window...again, cant say I was blown away by decor.
Not sure this type of restaurant is going to thrive in that location.
              Time will tell.
