storebought vs. U-pick fruit: shelf-life

My daughter and I picked some nectarines, peaches, and cherries at several U-pick farms in Brentwood, CA. I made sure that we picked only ripe-but-not-too ripe fruit. I noticed that on the very next day, soft spots started showing up on much of the fruit, which doesn't happen to the fruit I buy from the store (or Olson's Cherry Stand in Sunnyvale, CA) even though I don't refrigerate any of them. Has anyone noticed this, too? Any explanation? TIA.

    1. the store bought stuff was probably irradiated which would kill any surface mold spores. the stuff you picked yourself, not so much.
