Lunch in Illinois Between Toledo and Mt. Vernon (I 57 Corridor)

Davwud Jun 14, 2009 08:48 AM

Hey Hounds

We'll be travelling on I-57 and will be in the area above around lunch time. We're looking for a great, not to be missed lunch stop. We like Mom and Pop, Meat and 3 type places. We're always on the lookout for a local specialty or a famous spot.

Since Toledo, IL, population 1128 according to my road atlas, is pretty obscure, phrasing this as between Effingham/I-70 and Mount Vernon would clarify things. I have not been in that area recently enough to have any recommendations.

A few miles south of Mt. Vernon at the Ina exit is Uncle Joe's BBQ. Worth the extra time to get there.

Uncle Joe's in Ina is a good one and they have decent Q and a good fried balogna sadnwich. Firefly Grill in Effingham has been getting rave reviews on this board and in the papers.

Do not miss the FireFly Grill for lunch! Fabulous lunch specials. All locally sourced and prepared there. We drive from St Louis whenever we can come up with an excuse to go there.

Don't miss Firefly...well worth a substantial detour to eat there, and if you are going to be there....
