I've read CH posts both pro and con about 25 Degrees for so long and FINALLY made it there a couple of days ago. I would have gone to Blue Palms Brewhouse which is not far away but as it was a couple of hours before they open I figured that it was time to try 25 Degrees.
First the good part. As per the servers rec, I ordered the 'number three - $12 mezzo secco jack / green chili / chipotle / avocado' and thought that it was really good. I ordered it rare which is how it was served, had a good beefy flavor and was hot and juicy just how I like it! Chipotle flavor was TOO subtle, I wish that it had more of a capsaicin kick but overall a tasty burger that makes me want to try the numbers one and two!
Now the downside. Their beer list just plain sucks!!! miller high life / amstel light / heinekin / stella artois / 25 degrees red ale / schneider weisse hefeweizen / gueiness
When I read the beer choices and grumbled the waiter said something along the lines of "...I know it's a short list but they are really good beers." Management needs to consult with Christina Perozzi or just look at the options at Blue Palms or even Lucky Devils both nearby! There are too many places, many that have opened recently in L.A. that serve upscale hamburgers AND good craft/imported beers. OK, I'm done.

  1. In a perfect world I would agree with you.

I love a good beer selection to go with a tasty burger, but for my money I would rather have a small but good selection of beer and a really terrific burger as opposed to what most of these types of restaurants offer. That is a huge selection of beer on tap (mostly stale) and mediocre burgers that you can't even get cooked medium rare let alone rare. I refuse to eat a burger at The Yard House for this reason.

I have never had a burger at Blue Palms but I have had a decent burger at Lucky Devils, but the deal breaker for my wife is the pathetic wine selection. My wife doesn't drink beer so Lucky Devils is a bust. 25 Degrees has incredible burgers and a stellar wine list.

BTW I usually order a beer with a burger, but at 25 Degrees I always order a nice wine. If you have never had a great cab with a rare to med rare burger with that great artisan cheese on their burgers you are missing out. Give it a try.

gotta second cdmedici - I understand that they could do better with their beer list, but you can't argue with the quality of their burgers...never had the burger at blue palms either, but I feel like I would be going there mainly for the beer selection (i.e. not the burger)...i know some people like it but i think lucky devil's is a little overrated (not even close to my top 5 burgers in town) though it's decent..i guess i feel like you go certain places for certain things and i would go to 25 degrees for that burger alone anytime

haven't had the cab/burger combo - thanks for the rec, will try that next time

    2. I work right next door and have a different complaint - the service! Every time I've been it's been slow to non-existent and I've witnessed forgotten orders, food delivered to the wrong tables, and glass breakage. They need a new manager.

      But good fries!
