Good eats near Corning, NY?

There are supposedly some good chicken places nearby but the Curly's in Painted Post closed, and the one in Elmira's another 20 minutes down the road. Suggestions?

If you've been to Curly's Chicken in Elmira, is it worth going 40 minutes out of your way?

If I can't get that chicken, looking for the best old diner in the area. Or anything else great in Corning or the towns north a ways on Rt 17/86.

Would suggest you consider Mr. Chicken in nearby Watkins Glen (about 20 min from Corning); haven't been since a single visit years ago, but I recall it fondly, for the food and the old school vibe. Can't find a website but this should give you some idea (note: not my blog) --

For diner *listings*, if not recs, I'd begin poking around here:

I thought the lunch buffet at the Indian place on the main drag in Corning was surprisingly decent. They may be related to the very good Thali of India in the Rochester area.
