A girlfriend is celebrating her birthday tomorrow night and wants to have a fancy but fun outing of champagne and dessert after dinner- does anyone know of any bars/places in Santa Monica? I'm guessing this might be limited to hotel restaurants...but would love to hear ideas!! Want to make this a special night! Thanks!!

I know you said Santa Monica, but there's a place that fits your description perfectly...in Pasadena. POP Champagne and Dessert Bar. It's gotten a few good reviews on the Board.

also, not santa monica, but, cafe del rey offers a happy hour that starts at 9pm in which they offer $6 house champagne that is actually extremely good for the price. i believe that they would also let you order desserts in the bar area.

Riva has very good desserts and a full (all Italian) wine list [so prosecco might have to do instead of champagne]] and bar--great cappuccino, too. Wilshire Restaurant would also be a great choice if the evening is nice (the best seating is outside on the patio).

my first thought was Wilshire as well.

i think it might also be fun to head to Renee's Courtyard Cafe on Wilshire... not sure if they serve champagne, but it's a lovely outdoor setting with music... it reminds me of a tuscany crossed with new orleans.

too bad Cynthia's doesn't do just dessert... or at least the one on 3rd street didn't... haven't been to the on montana yet to find out... maybe cobbler is available with a bottle of champagne with no meal...

if you're open to not being in santa monica, you could do Providence's dessert tasting menu... or get desserts at Michel Richard...

Bar Chloe might be a good option.

I know you said you already thought of hotel restaurants, so you might have already thought of it... but how about The Penthouse at the Huntley Hotel? Amazing molten cake with Gran Marnier dark chocolate ice cream, creme brulee, black forest mousse, YUM!! And the view is incredible!
