I'm going to montreal this weekend. Could could anyone recommend somewhere that's very different then what I can find in the big cities in the U.S.
My budget is flexible and I'm willing to travel anywhere in the city to find the best.

    La Binerie Mont-Royal is the best authentic québécois cuisine on the cheap. (http://www.labineriemontroyal.com

    )

    for upscale, try Au Pied de Cochon (http://www.restaurantaupieddecochon.ca/).

      You might want to consider Au 5ieme Peche a uniquely Montreal bistro with creative & delicious use of mostly local products.

        Maybe Mme Bolduc?

        Altough I agree the small Bistros with great food are typically Montreal as well, an unpretentious mix of French and North America...
