Wonderful food, great value in Paris

We just returned from four weeks in France. On a recommendation of my daughter's friend, we booked a table at Le Petit Bordelais, 22 rue Surcouf, in Paris' 7th district. I had the 45 euro menu degustation and it was wonderful. First course was fois gras, second course was bar with taglitele and a delicious sauce, third course was a veal scallop with some lovely little vegetables, fourth was cheese and lightly dressed lettuce, and the last course was a wonderful millefuilles. My husband had a 33 euro menu which was mushrooms ala greque, a beef "stew" with noodles and green apple sorbet. He said every bite was delicious.

The restaurant has been in business about 18 months. The owner/chef, Phillipe Pentecote, won a Michelin star in the restaurant where he cooked before opening his own place. It was quiet and elegant. The staff was very attentive and Mr. Pentecote came out to talk with us before leaving. I highly recommend this restaurant.

It was a choice between Le Petit Bordelaise and L'Ami Jean (we were in a B&B in the same building as Le Petit Bordelaise (pure coincidence) and L'Ami Jean was just a couple of blocks away. I think we made the right choice for a relaxing, elegant meal that was delicious and worth every penny.

  1. Is this in the location previously occupied by Les Ormes and Bellcour before that? Anyone know what Stefan Mole is doing since closing Les Ormes?
