The General Greene ice cream cart

Has anyone tried the ice cream from the cart in front of the General Greene in Fort Greene? I haven't gotten a chance to yet, but as I work part time in the neighborhood I expect to soon (given, that is, that we finally have a day of sunshine sometime soon). If you've tried it, what do you think? I'll report back when I do.

  1. YES! OH MY GOODNESS is it good! Definitely the best ice cream I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot of ice cream. If it's available I'd recommend trying the bourbon raisin.

Wow! That's high praise indeed! I work on Dekalb Ave. on the weekends, I'm thinking that I have to stop by ASAP.

    2. I had the salted caramel pretzel. It was very good but I still prefer blue marble.

      1. I tried something called bulot chip, at least that's what I think it was called, though the only thing I'm sure of is that it started with the letter "b." Sort of like coffee chip. Definitely a grown-up flavor, not that sweet and a little bitter (in a good way). The texture was super-soft. Good but not so good I'd go running back.

You should also check out the ice cream at Bittersweet down the block. It's been awhile, but I remember really enjoying their Jamaica grapenut.

Brulot chip? After New Orleans coffee drink Café Brulot perhaps?

Yes, thank you! Ha ha, so glad I wasn't too far off. I remember her saying something about some sort of special coffee drink.

        2. i just went today, and have been hoping it would be great. i had the salted caramel with fresh pretzels mixed in and while it was good, it did taste a little "watery" if that is the right word. and while it might be the best in the neighborhood, it was not as dense as i like ice cream (i am not really a fan of blue marble) and definitely wasn't better than jacques torres new icecream or even brooklyn ice cream factory ice cream off the pier. but still if i were nearby i would probably come by just to taste the new flavors, and they were very nice.

          1. Stopped by yesterday and got a scoop each of salted caramel pretzel and bulot chip. Both flavors were good, particularly the bulot chip, but I have to agree that generally I like my ice cream denser and also that it was served too warm--it was melting off the cone pretty rapidly. Still, $3 for two scoops isn't bad and I work a block away so I'll probably frequent it this summer if only because the flavors show some real thought.
