Just a quickie; we're over here in Madrid, and hit up Gastroteca Santiago for dinner. Highly recommended by the NY Times, yet...

It was horrible. Beautiful decor, very comfy place, it all felt so right. Then the food came.

Details to come.

I've not been so I can't offer any personal opinion. However the place has gotten mixed reviews on the wonderful site called "11870.com". Some call it exquisite, others not and all say it is very expensive. Even if you speak only a few words of Spanish, the above-named site is an excellent source of information with its customer reviews.

Oh, yikes, I had heard some very lukewarm reports and had steered clear. The NYTimes has never done a good job with Spain in its travel section... and has gone from bad to worse over the past year or two...
