On Saturday I stopped by Bovolo to see what new flavors might be found in the gelati case. Root beer intrigued, and it tastes just like a premixed root beer float. However, it was eclipsed by Almond Joy, a milk chocolate base mingled with almond and coconut. Not in chunks or whole pieces but ground into the gelato. I was never a fan of the candy but I loved this flavor. Single scoops are $3.75 now.

For those of us for whom Healdsburg is too far of a trek, Fiorello's Gelato also makes an Almond Joy flavor. They're based in San Rafael and sell in multiple places, including the K.P. Deli in downtown Berkeley.

OK, it is not gelato, but one of my favorite frozen things along this link is La Michoacana's coconut paleta dipped in chocolate ... the flavors of Mounds ... only better.
