OK,

I know all about Chrain(horseradish), mayonnaise and Chraiyonaise (mixture of horseradish and mayonnaise) but am looking for something different to put on or eat with Gefilte fish.

Nothing too exotic or hot, please.

I recently had a creamy, garlic dip from some small place in Lakewood that was pretty good but it was about $4.00 for 3 ounces or so!

Any suggestions?

I like the prepared dill dips they sell in the kosher markets / take out establishments but as you note they can be pricey. So I make my own my combining the frozen dill cubes (Sabra) with mayo.

equal parts horseradish (the fresher the better) and chili sauce-- a couple of tablespoons each. Add juice from 1/2 lemon, a dash of soy sauce, salt and pepper to taste, and a pinch of sugar. I like to add several extra dashes of hot sauce, but that is up to you. So good you don't even have to taste the gefiltes.

If you don't want to taste the fish, then why eat it at all? It's true that most brands of jarred gefilte fish taste awful, but the answer is to find a brand that doesn't. Noam Gourmet brand is a jarred gefilte fish that actually tastes good, with or without condiments.

I cook mine with lemon pepper seasoning, and serve cold on crisp lemon with a good squueze of lemon on top. Decorated with thin slice lemon rosettes.

Remember gefilte fish is fish............

Anthing you would serve with fish is appropriate...
Lemon
Pepper
Lime
even a mango salsa

gefilte fish IS NOT fish. it is a fish product. it has a completely diferent taste and texture. you cannot compare a slice of gefilte fish, to a piece of chilean sea bass. im not talking about what is better, im saying that they have so little in common.

Texture is different. Taste varies. I don't use matzo meal or other fillers, just grind the fish and add egg, veg and spices, stuff and poach in the skin. This is fish, certainly not steak or yogurt.............................

If you choose the jarred stuffed that's mostly filler that is your misfortune.

My Pike and whitefish gefilte (stuffed fish) has much in common with pike and whitefish............

None of them have seen the inside of a glass jar.

the best condiment on Gefilte Fish is a mixture of:

60% chrain (the triple strong variety is best)
20% Woebers or A&H horseradish sauce
20% Woebers or A&H stone ground MUSTARD

their mustard is very unique and it also contains horseradish. every time i do this at my shabbos table, my guests look at me like i am nuts!!!! yet every time they try it they are AMAZED at how nicely it works with the fish.

i dont usually measure it out, i usually just put the chrain on, then a little squeeze of the other 2 and mix it on top.

A MUST TRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
