We are visiting this coming weekend and are looking for a restaurant that will have soft shells on their menu.

Blacksalt had them this past weekend (they were awesome!), and since they are both a premium fish market and upscale seafood restaurant, they're as likely to have them as anyone!

You can usually find them at Nam Viet, one of the best preparations in the area, I might add.

Steve, are they fresh there? I got the impression that they used frozen crabs.

I have no idea. I've has SS crabs in a lot of places, and these are a very fine preparation. I also love the ones at Bob's 66 Noodles in Rockville, which are done in the typical salt n pepper fashion.

Second Nam-Viet for softshells. I love the lemon pepper sauce that comes with.

Kinkead's has softshells. Preparation was described in the Washington Post last week. Not cheap but superb.

Raku in Bethesda has a nice soft shell bento box.

Great soft shell dinner at Buck's fishing and camping. Came with cheese grits and watercress and sweet and sour slaw. Only $17.00 and a ton of food.

            Does Buck's take reservations?

^^Not sure. We just walked in on a Friday night and got a seat. Best to call first I guess and check. Also the SS crab was a nice large fat one, none of those tiny little things.

Hank's Oyster Bar usually has softshells on their menu this time of the year...
