The Water Oak in Rutherfordton. The food is very good and the ambience is lovely. They have outdoor seating as well.

Point Of View on Memorial Hwy in Lake Lure is the BEST!
La Strada across from the Beach in Lake Lure is great!
Larkins On The Lake, good food, great view and atmosphere.

I'd love to hear the scoop on dining around lake lure and bat cave too. It looks like such an interesting area, I'd love to explore it...but not if there's no good food!

Larkins on the lake, LaStrada (have heard mixed reviews), Lake Lure Inn are all places that have been recommended to me since I started asking around after I saw this thread.

The Water Oak in Spindale (about 20 minutes away) is very good.

Could you define "near"? There are lots of great places in Asheville, but thats about 30 to 45 minutes away.

Anything closer? Would rather have places closer than that. If we did go to Asheville where would you recommend?

Sorry, I don't have any first hand experience with Lake Lure. Here are a couple of websites that might help, for what its worth:

                  http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g49268-Lake_Lure_North_Carolina.html

                  http://www.lake-lure.com/wheretoeat.html

Asheville has so many good places I hardly know where to start. You should probably do a search on here and you'll find lots of sugestions. I like Table, Bouchon, Zambra, Tupelo Honey, Doc Chey's, Salsa's, Sisters McMullen (for cupcakes). Places I haven't been but get good reviews include 12 Bones and The Admiral.
