Lone Star Beer Rant
This has recently been irritating me. Lone Star is both A) crappy and B) cheap. I can't understand why Lone Star has had this sudden surge of popularity. I nearly 'lost it' when I saw Lone Star at Momofuku Milk Bar for some absurd price (something like $7). It's a very cheap beer, on par with Busch Light or Keystone. Sorry for the rant, it's been bothering me how New Yorkers are falling head over heels for Lone Star. Now if they could bring some Shiner Bock out here, I'd be first in line to buy as much as possible.
Anybody else notice this trend?

I agree, Lone Star is mediocre. I feel it is my duty to let you know that RUB carries Shiner Bock. Only place I have ever seen it up here. If I recall correctly, its $6

re: ESNY
You make a good point about momofuku beer prices. I ate at the momo noodle bar couple of weeks back and am getting really sick and tired of being gouged on the beer front. The ramen itself is way overpriced (and going downhill from what I can tell from 3 visits this year) but getting hit with the double-whammy of obscene beer prices is too much. Lagunitas IPA was something like 9 bucks for a standard bottle. WTF! But the biggest con is their inclusion of the Japanese Beer Orion on the menu in a large 22oz bottle for a startling 15/16 bucks! Anyone who has ever been to Japan and drank Orion there would laugh out loud at this pricing of a very standard Japanese lager. Nothing premium about it at all. And you know the biggest laugh? Walk over to Soba Ya on E9th and get the same large bottle of Orion for SEVEN bucks!! Yes indeed, more than 50% cheaper than at Chang's rip-off joint. AND the noodles at soba-ya are waaaay better!!! Time to wisen up to the momo noodle & beer cons people!!

Yeah, I went to RUB for the first time a few weeks ago and while the BBQ sucks (for another thread), I was excited to see they carry Shiner. I asked the waitress where they get it and she told me they have some weird deal with the brewery where they distribute just to RUB.
If you're ever in the area, they also have Shiner at Rodeo Bar but it's obscenely overpriced, I imagine they ship it up from DC or something.

re: demigodh
It'll take more than Shiner Bock to get me to go to Rodeo Bar. The free peanuts dont even help!!
I also used to agree with you re: RUB but I went a few weeks ago (where i had a Shiner) for the first time in at least a year and thought the pulled pork was the best in the city. Smoky, slightly sweet, good bark. their sauce was eh and unnecessary.

re: ESNY
fair enough, I guess I need to try them again. I went a few months ago for the first (and only) time and probably just ordered poorly. I remember enjoying my baked beans but I got their spicy sausage and it tasted and had the consistency of bland meatloaf. Of course, I was probably being greedy thinking I could get good BBQ sausage, I'll have to try the pulled pork.

I went to Austin last month to visit my sis and it was around $2.50 everywhere for a bottle. NYC is just crazy. I would rather spend $6 or $7 on a high quality beer, not Lone Star.
