bakery/peninsula
I am looking for good bakeries in the Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Mt. View, etc. area. I love pastry----both Danish and French, but I haven't been able to find a really good bakery in these areas. I go the P. Alto often, but don't live there. Any suggestions??
Have you checked out the new Mayfield cafe and bakery in PA's Town & Country? I did a quick scan of the morning pastry counter and stuff looked good.

Thank you Melanie----I'm heading to PA today, and I'll try Mayfield tomorrow morn. Seems with all the well-off foodies in that area, there would be more good bakeries. I live in Santa Cruz, and we have at least 3 excellent bakeries!
I'm willing to drive just about anywhere on the Peninsula to get my pastry fix!

You will drive past Fleur de Cocoa in Los Gatos. Please stop and sample the pastries. I think it is the best fine bakery in the Peninsula / South Bay area.
You might also enjoy their café lunches.

I had a very soggy, i.e. microwaved quiche there and was very disappointed. The sandwiches looked like a better option. And there are only four or so tables so lunch is crowded.
But the chocolates are very tasty.

What about Douce France in the T&C. It's hidden in the back, but they looked like they had some nice pastries. I always end up spending my calories on Kara's cupcakes so I haven't tried them yet.

You are RIGHT. While I think Fleur de Cocoa is on a higher level, we are lucky to have Douce France and Palo Alto Baking in Palo Alto and Martha's Pastries in Menlo Park.

Douce France makes an unnamed chocolate-covered lemon curd cookie that is divine!
