New restaurant in Watertown?
Hello, I was driving through Watertown Square today on Main Street and noticed a Grand Opening on June 12 banner not far from Not Your Average Joe's. Does anyone here know anything about it? (Longtime reader, first time poster)
From the buzz I've heard, it's a place called The Talk and it is brought to us by the owners of Talk of the Town diner. Cuisine sounds like red sauce Italian. I'm hoping it's better than the boring impression I have of it, but to be honest, I still don't know much about it. Here's a link to a fairly recent article in the Watertown TAB:

Yeah, I got the same impression, unfortunately. The last kind of restaurant the square needs, other than another pizza joint, is a red sauce italian. Maybe they'll surprise us.

Yeah and the Watertown diner folks are not exactly culinary wizards. The cupcake shop bombed, and the food at the diner, beyond breakfast has never been noteworthy.

Wrong Town Diner, Striper. This is Talk of the Town on North Beacon just outside the square. The Deluxe Town Diner actually has much better food than Talk of the Town, though TotT is much better than say the New York Diner or Tresca's.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for the replies! Guess I was hoping for something a little different for that spot.

Speaking of the New York Diner - "The Diner that Never Sleeps" - it never seems to be open - is it still operational? Are they really open on Fri. and Sat. nights from 10 pm to 4 am as the signage says? I assume it is ok greasy spoon chow?

The New Yorker is most certainly still operational. I hit it on occasional weekend days. It's supremely basic but fills the belly when you're looking for standard fare... the one distinguishing feature is the scali toast, served in fairly large quantity and before the meal actually arrives. Their sausage links are tasty too -- but I don't think they're referred to as anything special on the menu.

That's about right. It's not bad, but I don't find myself craving it. The scali toast is pretty tasty, though.
