Montreal Recommendations

A party of 8 guys are coming to Montreal next weekend and will be staying at the Sofitel. We are looking for a decent dining experience where restaurants are a hip, nice place to be, good food and great vegetarian options (and not just nicely laid out boiled vegetables). If you can kindly provide your top fairly expensive location and the other being a well priced restaurant.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Au Pied de Cochon, Garde-Manger... fun places, very good food. Not sure if you can still get reservations for next weekend though (should have already grabbed the phone by now).

St. Laurent near Sherbrooke is the area where all the above restos can be found and that is definitely where you'll want to be if you're wanting a glitsy scene. I've heard that Globe is pretty good but not sure if I got that info from a reliable source.

Assuming food matters more than scene, Au Cinquième Péché is a great, fairly expensive (though excellent QPR) place for vegetarians (whom they treat respectfully and imaginatively, a relative rarity in Montreal) and carnivores (who can even order seal this time of the year). If you want scene afterwards, you can always wander down to one of the glitz-strip bars.
