Bibou Sunday prix fixe
After a great meal at Bibou about 10 days ago, my spouse and I returned last night for their Sunday night prix fixe. Wow! The meal started with a Soupe de Mais, corn soup with smoked salmon in a petite cup like a little gravy bowl -- larger than an amuse bouche but smaller than the usual cup of soup. Absolutely delicious.
There was a choice of 3 appetizers -- pate de tete (pig head terrine), excargots with garbanzo beans & mushrooms or foie gras with raspberries & sliced almonds. We couldn't get our minds around the pig head terrine so ordered 1 snails and 1 foie gras. The escargots were delicious and the foie grois (mine) was absolutely luscious -- I've never had better.
3 entrees were offered as well -- hanger steak, scalops and boudin blanc. We both ordered the scallops, which were served with creamy orzo in a lemon sorrel vinaigrette. There were 3 large scallops in a scrumptious sauce and the orzo just slid right down. Excellent.
And there was a choice of 3 desserts -- pot de creme au chocolat, tarte aux Myrtilles (blueberries) and oeufs a la neige with creme anglaise. We had the tarte and the oeufs, which we split. Both were absolutely superb.
All this for $45 per person. Pierre is absolutely a phenomenal chef and Madame is a charming hostess. It's hard to believe that he does everything -- bakes the bread, makes the desserts, everything! After 2 meals, we rank this restaurant right up there with Vetri.
At the end of our meal (we eat early), Georges Perrier appeared with a party of 5 and 4 bottles of wine! He was there to try out the menu of his former chef de cuisine.
