Banh mi in Des Moines?

  • 9

Does anyone know if any of the Vietnamese restaurants in Des Moines serve Banh mi? Lucky Dragon's barely readable MySpace page seems to indicate that it does, but I can't find menus for any others. And do any of them serve vegetarian (tofu) banh mi? Thanks for any help.

  1. Yes, Lucky Dragon has quite a few available. Not sure about tofu, though. Also, fairly sure that Pho All Season's has bahn mi available. Not sure about the others.

Did you ever venture out to find out who had the best banh mi? I've been dying to try one, but they are seemingly impossible to find in KC. I read in this week's Cityview that Pho All Seasons has a great banh mi, and if that's the case, I'm going to get one when I'm in DSM next.

I think this article in this weeks Cityview may interest everyone.

jhojati, just noticed you already read this.

I have. The only places I have found them so far ar at Pho All Seasons (the best so far) and Lucky Dragon. Its very likely that they are at other SE Asian locations as well, but I can vouch for those two.

The combination sandwich at Pho All Seasons is my favorite so far. $2.50 or 3 for $6 or some such thing.

      2. Was just looking at the menu for South Union, and they actually have a Turkey Banh Mi sandwich - certainly not authentic, but interesting nonetheless...

Wow, will have to check that out. I have currently tried all of the offerings i can find in town, and Pho All Season's is by far the best, with Lucky Dragon a ways behind in 2nd and the new Le Paris Cafe a distant 3rd.

Any others you can think of? Will definitely have to give the S. Union version a shot. My guess is it is a recent addition, as one of the local papers ran a story about the sammies and one from P.A.S. was picked as the best sandwich offered by about 5 or 6 local chefs.

EDIT: Derrr, Bob already linked the article a few weeks back AND I comented. Too many forums going at the same time. :)

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know whether Pho All Season has a vegetarian (tofu) bahn mi? Can't find a menu online....

Hmm, I doubt they have one on the menu, but I bet if you asked for one they could hook you up.

              Can't say for sure, though.

        2. Pronto is now doing Bahn Mi sandwiches at lunch on Nollen Plaza. Great pork belly and their pickled daikon is wonderful. Try them out.
