Bon Appetit - Provence Issue?

It's been a while since I've been a subscriber of Bon Appetit, but there have been times when I've found some of their special travel issues particularly helpful and informative. Can anyone tell me whether Bon Appetit has done a Special Collector's Edition for Provence or any other parts of France in the last couple of years, and if so, when was that issue published? Thanks!

  1. yes, there is a Provence special issue that came out a few years ago. I have it in my library, but since I'm not there I can't tell you exactly what year it was.

    1. They published a Provence issue in May 1999. It has some great recipes that I make quite often, such as stuffed peppers, asparagus soup and swiss chard ravioli. I used it to plan a trip a few years ago and it was great. Many of the recipes are on as well. There may have been an issue about Paris as well over the past few years but I'm not 100% certain. Gourmet magazine does issues about France often, including two in 2008 alone (French Bistro Cooking in March and Paris on a Budget in September). I hope that helps!

      1. I have the May 1999 issue that was a Special Collector's Edition on Provence. Not sure if there is an issue more recent.

            I have a random question about this exact issue: is there an article for roast leg of lamb with artichokes? it was one of the best legs of lamb I ever made. I threw out the magazine by mistake a few years ago - but I'm not entirely sure if it was in this issue or another one of the special issues.

            also, does anyone know what the easiest way to get a hold of old copies of Bon appetit and Gourmet is?

              Hi Liza122. I just went to and entered "roast leg of lamb artichokes" in the search box. Up popped several recipes from both Gourmet and Bon Appetit past issues. Maybe one of these is the recipe you are looking for? If you recognize the recipe, please share which one it is, as I am always up for another way to cook lamb. Thanks.

                There is, indeed, a recipe for Roast Leg of Lamb with Artichokes and Garlic in the special Provence issue of Bon Appetit (May, 1999). It's not the same recipe that Mothership was referring to. There is a recipe for Roast Leg of Lamb with Potatoes and Onions in the Provence issue that can be found on Epicurious.

                I bought a copy of that issue on Ebay. If you'd like the recipe for Roast Leg of Lamb with Artichokes and Garlic, let me know.

                  I went back to Epicurious and found the recipe of which you speak. It sounds delicious. I can't wait for it to cool down enough to turn my oven on for a bit. Thank you.

            2. Many years ago I subscribed to Bon Appetit. They had a recipe for "San Francisco Apple Pie" It had flambed apples in brandy, sour cream and a crumbled top. It was so very, very good!

              Can you obtain the recipe?
