You just know everything don't you Carswell!! LOL

In that vein, why can't I get Cachaca here in Montreal???? Am loving the caipirinas... using the stuff we bought in North Carolina last summer. But alas we used up the last drops of it tonight.

The SAQ carries two brands of Cachaca - however neither are in stock in the city itself at the moment - but if you check their website, you'll find that all it takes is a short drive to Ile Perrot or Laval to get some.

Highly likely that the SAQ will be restocking it. It sold out fast and they're big on cocktails these days.

I just bought three bottles from the Ile Perrot SAQ... only one bottle left in that store.
I love caipirinas, and recently tried a mango caipirina - also quite tasty.

You deduced that from what I wrote? I should really choose my words more carefully!

I'm a very deduceful person. Also a wishful thinker! LOL.

It wasn't going to be a surprise was it??? oooh, and now I ruined it. Darn.

Do you have a recipe for the mango caipirina?

                      2 tick slices of lime
                      1 tsp. super fine sugar
                      1/4 cup mango juice
                      3 tbsp cachaca

Mash lime into short glass. Add sugar, mango juice and cachaca, ice. stir & enjoy.

The following also has good cachaca recipes:

I hate to say, I've not seen these cakes in Montreal. Could I be missing them? Maybe. But that being said, I've only seen them in the Caribbean.

it might be worth calling some of the Caribbean grocery stores to see if anyone carries them though.

I am very fond of Tortuga Rum Cakes since sampling them in Cayman at their factory in the early'90's. Every once and a while I break down and order them from coffeeam.com.They are very shippable and come intact. They have the different sizes as well ( 4, 16, 33ozs) .I know you didn't want to mailorder but sometimes the urge is large (for us especially at Christmas ) They also have a great coffee selection from around the world.

I can't remember seeing them anywhere other than the Caribbean myself, but you've just reminded me to bring some back on my next trip :)

i still have a couple of tiny cakes left, but the urge to buy more is great... i guess i'll have to order them online.
