Sarasota Fruitville Grove Market Closes; Searches for New Location

  • 2

The Detwiler Family closed the Fruitville Grove Market about a half mile East of I-75 on Fruitville Road on Saturday, June 6, 2009. They are looking for another property to rent which will not be so expensive.

I found out about this place by reading these boards and was so happy to find a place that provided a huge variety of fresh produce, as well as homemade noodles, baked goods, ice cream, canned and pickled Amish foods, Amish cheese and butter, etc. The butter was really outstanding. I hope that these people don't get discouraged. We need places like this and nowadays they are far and few between.

yes they relocated and jjust opened.....
      Detwiler's Farm Market
      6000 Palmer Blvd.
On the corner of Cattleman and Palmer Blvd.
Palmer is just south of Fruitville and if you take Cattleman off Fruitville and take a left on Palmer, you will see
      a) Browns Grove Fruit and Veg market
      b) Detwiler's
      c) and Fruitville Grove Market reopened by the owner of the property.
I visited all (3) this week, and it looks like this:
Brown's Grove is good for oranges
Detwiler's Farm Market has a long way to go to get back to where they ended. They need to work on getting to make the product presentable, get rid of the old fruit, and the flies.......
The old Fruitville Grove Market looked almost the same as when Detwiler was running it..... i overheard the owner say to someone when I was checking out, then Detwiler was only acting a manager for them for 5 or 6 years, and they decided to manage it themselves, which is a bunch of crock...... Detwiler was renting the market and they land owners decided he was making too much money and waned to go from $8000 month to $10,000. He said he could not pay that much, and they forced him out........
