Growing up in Germany and rooming with a european certified chef and being the grandson of grandparents who successfully ran a family styled gGerman restaurant for more than 50 years sets your standard for German food pretty high. Having traveled all over the US with an Autrian band teaches you to tempor your flavor for authentity with your desire to eat something close to traditional. This place has neither. I have eaten here on two separate occations. Let's face it, every chef has a bad day; but two random bad days is not as easy to swallow. I was able to look past the fact the foods are wrongly labeled on the menu, but the quality would make Mc Donald's look bad. Add to that the price and everything is sour. Now if you are into drinking, the atmospher is great and the beer selection is good.

if you like to drink (at least 1 large stein, maybe two), budget for about $60-70 per person. It's expensive but can be loads of fun. 2 tips: go after 7 when the accordian player gets there and avoid Saturday nights. You will not leave thirsty or hungry. The food would never challenge what you can get in Germany or even what you used to be able to get in the glory days of Milwauke, but for what it is, it satisfies.

This place is a rowdy BLAST!!!! Go there! But not like for a first date or anything because it's much too loud to expect to have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. We are going Sat. with a group of 14 people for my boyfriend's birthday. I'm sure that we'll cause quite a scene w/ all our Tiki Taki Tiki Taki Hoy Hoy Hoy beers! (they have American food, too, if you're afraid to try German fare.) ****Call 2-4 weeks ahead for reservations****

I've been here at least 100 times over the last 12 years so obviously I don't dislike it although most of the times were in response to an elderly relatives request who had a real soft spot for the place. It is now owned by people of Italian extraction which is no problem except that IT'S A GERMAN RESTAURANT!! Prices are about 25% higher than they should be and have risen rather dramatically in the last few years. Don't ever go on a dining holiday like Mother's Day as you will receive an unpleasant pricing surprise and an equally unpleasant reduction in the best menu items.
The food is good...not great..just good. The Polish waittresses are great and really pleasant for the most part. Ticki Tocki etc is when you order a really large beer...Pretty tacki..tacki but each to his own.
Give it a shot...especially on a Sunday afternoon...no crowds at all. Ask for a booth in the back room unless you have a large group. More ambience. -
I ate there a few months ago. Yes, it was more pricey than I expected, but you got a lot of food. It reminded me of growing up in the Cleveland area with a lot of ethnic restaurants (before having an ethnic restaurant was trendy). You get various appetizers, of course a main course (the wienerschnitzel is good) with sides and then several additional sides served family-style. And I think dessert was included, too. So, for the cost you got a lot to eat. Additionally, good German beer. I recommend it!

mmalmad is right--and they must have an IMMENSE advertising budget as those billboards are ALL OVER the state of CT. I've never been. Friends used to go years ago. Would love a recent update. I only know they do that "ticky tocky ticky tocky hoy hoy hoy!" chant when someone drinks a beer (it must be a special/large beer or I'm sure they'd get tired of saying that). ;)
