poundcake w/o needing a mixer

We LOVE poundcake, but all the recipes I've looked at, including Cooks Illus. and Saveur, all say that the proper texture can only be had with a free-standing mixer, for which I have neither the money nor the space. Surely poundcake was, at some point in history, possible without KitchenAid.

Oh, please. The trick is sifting White Lily Flour with your salt & baking powder. If you are good with a whisk & get your butter nice & softened, a stand mixer is not necessary. Hand mixer will serve you well. Just make sure you sift that White Lily Flour! And yes, it makes a superior pound cake!

I've made a wedding (pound)cake with a handmixer just takes longer.

          ??

Just try it by hand. Surely some directions on a recipe aren't going to stand in your way of poundcake, are they?

Get out your spatula and start mixing by hand.

You can make them with a handmixer. It just takes longer.
