I may see if Hopkins Street Bakery in Berkeley has the lemon-filled donuts. I like the raspberry.

Bear Claw in Pinole has some good donuts made in-house.

Andy's Donuts on 23rd in Richmond make respectable donuts.

One of the few items I like a lot at Bouchon Bakery in Yountville is the jelly donuts. Worth the $3, IMO.

I had a pre-celebration of Thursday at Cafe Fanny with a beignet. Does that count? It should given the French connetion of this holiday.

Not a bad beignet but difficult to give a good evaluaton since I didn't have it till much later in the day. The sugar outside the puffy square beignet melted and got sticky. It came with a little container of fresh peach jam which was a little on the sweet side, but deeply peachy with chunks of the fruit.

What is your pleasure today?

Donut du Jour in Los Altos. Picked up 3 dozen to take to work. Thanks for the heads-up on this special day.

btw,, Donut du Jour is converting to a mini donut shop in mid-July. They will still make regular donuts to order. The minis have become their signature offering and they need to capitalize on the popularity of these gems.

Thanks for the tip. I've been a fan of Bob's on Polk St in SF for years. Great old fashion style doughnuts, including French crullers, chocolate-glazed cake, and my favorite... buttermilk cake, glazed, then crossed with raspberry jam! Damn!
