Tip For Tea

simple thing, but making tea with spring water/ bottled water, makes it taste ten times better!

No offense, but as you have to boil it first, could it really matter? where do you live that the water from the tap is so problematical that you can taste it AFTER it has been boiled and steeped with tea?

You obviously don't have a Brita water filter, otherwise you'd know there's an "appearance" difference.

Sorry, you mean the resultant tea "appears" different? or you mean "appearances count"?

Brita tries to convince you it must taste better if the tea looks better.
That's when I know it's time to change the filter.

Yes, even in NYC, which is supposed have quite good tap water, I find it tastes better when it's been filtered. I have also read that it's best to make tea with as "pure" a water as possible, in order to maximize the flavour of the tea.

I take it you do not live in the Florida Keys.

No, we have two kitchens that produce steady streams of good tea day and night (British background). One is in Toronto where tap water quality is not an issue and the other is a home by the sea on the east coast of Canada served by a well on our property.

Though I must brew up 3-5 pots of tea a day, I have honestly never considered that the quality of the water (well beyond ecoli-free!) was a determining factor. We like a very strong blend which we get sent over from Britain and like it very well steeped.

I guess our palates are probably equally steeped and not subtle enough to detect this nuanced approach! I honestly taste no difference in the city versus the well water when it comes to tea-making, so I suspect that filtred and bottled water would be equally wasted, but I will be open-minded to other's needs in future.

I think you are on to something. It seems he is making similar claims about pasta water. LOL

If he said bottled water would be good to bathe in then I might be suspicious.
