Healthy lunch options : 20 minute walk from Kendall Square

FoodLush Jun 4, 2009 10:03 AM

Any suggestions for a healthy lunch option (take-out) within a 20 minute walk of Kendall Square? I am thinking something on the lines of UFood. I want to be able to leave Kendall, get take out, and be back within in an hour.

How close or far away are you from Clover food truck? http://www.cloverfoodlab.com/

      Nice one digga.

I really like the chickpea fritter sandwich and you can get healthy sides like carrot salads and humus, etc.

20 minutes is a tough call given the dearth of lunch options (I work there too). Depending on where you are, I regularly walk to pick up take out and head back to the office within an hour (but not necessarily 40 mins) at these places:

Star Market on Green St (for their salad bar, or something from their prepared foods)
Baraka Cafe - Central Sq (tuna or chicken sandwich)
Rangzen - definitely feasible, though I find their food not as suitable for takeout
Montien on Cambridge St (be sure to call ahead so you're food is ready)
Luna Cafe - has salad and sandwiches (even though I go just for iced coffee)
Four Burgers - healthy would probably mean their veggie or salmon burger
The Mideast - their chicken kebab plate is pretty tasty

Whether these work for you may also depend on how fast you can walk. I eat and work at my desk when I get back so a slightly longer walk is ok.

is the grill out yet at the Blue Room? Tasty grilled fish and meat. Healthy, too.

Yep, been open since mid May at least. Hit there several times already.

The 2nd Street Cafe is a ways down from Kendall, and has nice homemade soups, and solid salad options as well. I like the spinach salad, but that could be due to the bacon vinaigrette. I'm no angel, no.

City Girl Cafe' might fit the bill, depending on how fast you walk. It's across from S&S Deli.

I'm a big fan of Cafe Kiraz, towards Inman on Hampshire Street. Looks like a run-of-the-mill sub shop from outside, but it turns out some surprisingly well-executed midscale food.

I almost always get their sandwich of roasted beets, caramelized onions, oven-roasted tomatoes, goat cheese, walnuts, and spinach, but they have a similarly tasty-sounding selection of salads, not to mention plenty of totally unhealthy options if you're in the mood for a caloric splurge.

I believe there is a Sebastian's there with hot food, sandwich and salad options. The Sebastian's near me also serves sushi and yogurts.

Thanks for the suggestion...I do like Sebastians, but it is too close.

I think I need to clarify my original post : I want to walk about 20-25 minutes, get my lunch and walk back.
