Zax Pints and Plates

Been meaning to write this for a while. I've always liked this little place - it is moderately priced, comfortable, and the food is good. Before writing this post, I did a search for "Zax" and I can't find one negative thing written about it.
A few weeks ago, I went to a private dinner there and we samples several unique Belgian (one Dutch, albeit on the Belgian border) beers. I guess that there was a Belgian Beer Festival in May, and one of my friends set up our dinner later to sample some of the featured brews. I think that we had about eight or nine different beers, expertly explained by the staff. For this event, food was secondary, but good (I had a pizza). All eight of us agreed that we all like the food at Zax. My personal favorite is anything with their green peppercorn demiglace.
My favorite beer of the night was Tillburg's Dutch Brown. I am partial to browns...this one was not overly hopped and with just enought malt to perfectly balance the two.
Scaldis Dubuisson is a crazy beer unlike anything I've ever tasted, and I loved it. It was a 12 percent alcohol beer with (to me) a mixture of nutty and citrus aromas. Better stated here:
The menu has been pretty consistent over the years, but they usually seem to have three "specials" in the evening. Parking is tight on the lot, but there is ample parking right across the street (near Hooter's).
Here's the menu:
I love this place. Not going to blow your mind, but it is consistently great. Has a true neighborhood feel to it, in the heart of Austin, with an outstanding beer selection. The kind of restaurant I would like to own.
Nice review rudeboy.
And since burgers seem to be all the rage now, I will tip my hat to the burger at Zax... very fresh, cooked to order, medium thickness, great bun.
