Please... I'm having trouble finding something that is stainless steel, contemporary looking and quiet that doesn't cost a fortune. Thanks for any suggestions, links, etc.

Cheers!

I love my Le Creuset harmonic teakettle (it's so quiet you can barely hear it) but it doesn't come in stainless:

I have a Calphalon stainless tea kettle and it doesn't whistle. I like it a lot. It has a stainless and glass lid. If I'm copying the link correctly, this should give you a picture: http://www.amazon.com/Calphalon-Collectors-2-Quart-Stainless-Kettle/dp/B00006FX8D .

We picked a Cuisinart for around $25 at TJ Maxx -- it is a whistler, but it will not whistle unless the pot is filled with water (the whistle is in the lid -- a partially filled pot will let the steam escape through the spout.) So far no problems.

When the whitle is working, it makes sort of a harmonica tone.

white light: "I'm having trouble finding something that is stainless steel, contemporary looking and quiet that doesn't cost a fortune."

Stainless steel . . . not exactly, but it will not stain;

Contemporary looking:  check;

Quiet:  check;

Doesn't cost a fortune . . . well . . .

The same site also has the Copco Vision, which may be spot-on your specs, but nowhere near as much fun:

Have you considered an electric kettle. They are super fast, efficient and are used a lot in most other parts of the world.

Stay away from the Black & Decker one. The design is really bad and guaranteed to burn you. This is the one that is globular with a nice curved handle. They tell you to heat it with the lid off, if you try and pour it with the lid off the steam will scald you. Try to put the lid back on it to pour - you get scalded. It is this one called a cordless electric kettle.

Not stainless, but we've really enjoyed the Chemex glass water kettle at the bottom of the page http://www.chemexcoffeemaker.com/Coffeemakers.htm

It's much more sturdy than you might imagine. It's already survived boiling dry once. =o We've been using it now since Jan.
