Paneer Tikka
My girlfriend spent two years in India, where her favorite food was paneer tikka kebabs-- spiced skewers of paneer with peppers, onions, tomato. Tomorrow is her birthday and I am hoping to find a good version of the stuff for her. I think the same thing is also known as paneer shashlik. We've had pretty good versions at Five Stars Punjabi and a vegetarian place on 37th ave in Jackson Heights-- I think Rahjbog Sweets. Does anyone have any more information on this item?
Argh! This is my and my wife's favorite dish as well, and we can never find a good one in the US. We fell in love with it in Hong Kong, at my favorite hole-in-the wall Indian place in Mid-Levels near Lan Kwai Fong, Gunga Din's. http://www.gungadins.com/ Haven't been there in years, but I can still taste their Paneer Tikka...

just saw the menu of a new place Bhatti Indian Grill and they have 'Bhatti Paneer Tikka' in kebab form so this should be it: "Spiced cubes of soft and juicy cottage cheese marinated in yogurt and spices grilled with bell peppers, onions, tomatoes."
personally, I can't imagine the food is good but the place is paying for a lot of PR (and enlisting anonymous shills) on many sites (eater, nymag, gothamist, etc.). Seeing as its the same people as Kebab Factory (that nasty place with the unlimited kebabs), I can't imagine its good but at least they have the dish.

I was wondering about this new place as I've walked by it twice. I was wondering how they managed to fill up the restaurant so quickly after opening, with predominantly a tourist crowd (i.e., not indian for the most part). The PR machines in this city are scary. Is there is an expose somewhere on how the PR machines work/cost etc? Is this a separate board topic on its own?
I've had mediocore experiences at Dhaba last 3 times I have gone (2 buffets and 1 dinner sitting) and wanted to try Bhatti... I hope Dhaba picks up the slack soon..
