Good Eats Near LAX?

laytonj1 Jun 2, 2009 01:46 PM

I am looking for recommendations for restaurants in close proximity to LAX. I will be picking up my parents tomorrow and then off to an early dinner to bypass rush-hour. No Thai or Asian food (parents are weird) but anything else is fine. Thanks!

Pann's or Truxton's American Bistro would probably both work from your description of your parents.

    Pann's Restaurant & Coffee Shop
6710 La Tijera Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045

    Truxton's American Bistro
8611 Truxton Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045

      Welcome to Chowhound!

If you are heading south, I'd give Havana Mania a try for Cuban food. Aliki's Taverna right near LAX is good for Greek.

      Some other ideas:

      Aliki's Greek Taverna

Ahhh. To avoid a little (!) traffic later La Huasteca in Lynwood is on your route. Wandering around Plaza Mexico afterwords would burn up some time. The Dal Rae in Pico Rivera is old school American food. Both places are a little upscale, if that's OK.

            La Huasteca
            3150 E Imperial Hwy, Lynwood, CA 90262

            Dal Rae
9023 E. Washington Blvd., Pico Rivera, CA 90660

We like the Dal Rae both for the old school vibe and the food which is pretty good. The only downside in this instance is that, since the OP said that they are looking to go somewhere and avoid traffic for awhile, it's at least 30 miles from LAX to the Dal, which would seem to be in opposition to the "bypass rush hour traffic" idea.

We should ask the OP what time her pick up at LAX is.
I assumed :\ that it would be early to mid afternoon. For later times you're right, just camp out near LAX.

One other thought since you will be dining early (important since they don't take reservations) would be Houston's in Manhattan Beach. Nice interior space and quite good food with enough choices so that both you and your parents should be able to find something you like.

              Houston's Restaurant
1550 Rosecrans Ave Ste A, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266

Second City Bistro in El Segundo is a nice place for dinner. Nice salads and the Tomato Basil Gorgonzola soup is delicious. I love dipping the warm rolls in the soup.

I;ll add Chalet Edelweiss and the Farm Stand to the mix. Or, if they would prefer steaks and chops, there are Fleming's and Shula's 347 close to hand.

                  Farm Stand
422 Main St, El Segundo, CA 90245

                  Shula's 347
6101 W Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar
2301 Rosecrans Ave, El Segundo, CA 90245

                  Chalet Edelweiss
8740 Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90045

Thanks for the great variety of suggestions everyone! We ended up at Pann's and it was exactly what my parents were craving since they just landed from Italy and wanted some good old American comfort food. I was a little apprehensive when we pulled up but the food and service more than made up for the aesthetics:) Thanks again:)

For a small chain Salt Creek Grill on Sepulveda a little south of the airport is pretty good for casual food.
