Iowa City restaurant recs
I'm a Boston chowhound who will be in Iowa City for 3 nights later this week for a conference at the University of Iowa. I'm staying at the Sheraton Iowa City (210 S Dubuque Street), and won't have a car, so I'm looking for restaurant recommendations within walking distance. One night I am dining out with a large group, so recommendations for a place that could accommodate ~15 people and costs < $30 pp (including dinner, drinks, tax, and tip) would be great. Other than that, I'm looking for anything that is chow-ish and uniquely "Iowan", and not too pricey (generally entrees < $20 would be good). Recommendations for good bars would also be appreciated. Thanks!
Welcome and have a good time. If you don't find your answers here, you may not find them anywhere.
The Sheraton is right in the heart of IC. The ped mall is out the back door and you are in for some good times.

Prepare to get alot of replies! My wife and I LOVE Red Avocado on Washington, a short walk from Dubuque. They feature locally sourced ingredients and have amazing dishes like "Jupiter's Gnocchi" and excellent teas and juices. I've not found anything quite like it where I live in the Twin Cities.

If you can swing it you should try to get to Whitey's Ice Cream, which is a small ice cream chain in Eastern Iowa/Western Illinois. Google maps says there's one only a couple blocks from the address you put up. Get a malt/shake. :)
It's a bit of a hike but there are a couple restaurants on Linn St. that might work. Motley Cow, Devotay, and Linn St. Cafe are all there.

I am saying this with tounge- in- cheek (kind of), but do yourself a favor, rent a car, and head the 10 miles or so to Oxford, Iowa and eat at Augusta Restaurant. I have not been so satisfied since (and I live 400 miles away). This is a special place!

For a local taste, I recommend the Motley Cow hands down. 4.5 blocks from your hotel, and the weather is lovely. You may also enjoy Devotay across the street from the aforementioned, as well as the Chef's Table downtown. Red Avocado is solid too--vegan, organic, local. Enjoy your stay,
