The Hyatt is in the (relatively recently named) Ladder District and on the edge of both the Theatre District and Chinatown. Plenty of recommendations on these boards.

But a uniquely Boston institution in the Ladder District would be Locke-Ober, which is fairly fancy. More modern would be blu adjacent to the Sports Club of LA.

Not knowing where you're from, it's impossible for me to say what would be unique for you or unavailable at home.

You're right next to Chinatown which has many good restaurants mentioned here. 2 of the nicer places are Penang for Malysian and Montien for Thai...ask for the Thai menu.

A step up in price and an easy walk is Troquet; French/American with a very strong wine program.

Upper priced, you're close to Locke Ober; beauitiful classic Boston dining room (maybe have a drink?), Oya..pricey but excellent creative Japanese, or Bina Osteria..like going to Milan without getting on a plane..:) nice, modern Italian bar.

All of these are an easy walk from the Hyatt.

If it were me; and I didn't want to spend a pile of $, I'd probably have a drink at LO and walk to Penang for dinner and dessert at the bar at Bina. Bina is a short "9 iron" from your hotel..:)

Two great casual options around the corner from the hotel: Kingston Station, for French bistro-inspired and American comfort food; and Goodlife, for good quality bar food.
