Birthday Dinner at Troquet

My dh, daughter and I went to dinner on Saturday night at Troquet. We were able to make a reservation in the late morning for that evening and arrived about 5 minutes early. We were seated and given a choice of water (bottled or tap) while we looked at both the wine and dinner menus. The wine menu is varied and after much consideration I ordered a glass of very nice Chianti and my husband chose a Cabernet. My daughter decided to have water until dessert. We had rolls and butter as well but we were all careful not to fill up on them.

We started with appetizers - my dh had the corn & lobster bisque, I had the foie gras duo and my daughter ordered the short rib cannoloni. All were outstanding. The bisque was loaded with lobster meat and very delicately flavored with plenty of corn. The foie gras came as a pate with carmelized pineapple along side and as a nice rare piece served with seckel pear and toasted brioche - truly fantastic. The cannoloni was one nice large cannoloni stuffed with lots of short rib meat that was moist and rich in flavor.

For entrees my dh ordered the suckling pig, my daughter had the chicken and I ordered the Cote de Boeuf. My husband's plate was amazing - a trio of pork with crispy skin and a nice pork sausage - it was incredible and we all enjoyed it. My daughter's chicken was perfectly cooked and was served with a wonderful creamy orzo & corn and a lot of chanterelles. My beef was cooked perfectly and was a very large portion. It was served with a deeply carmelized onion jam, a potato cake stuffed with gorgonzola, haricot vert and carrots. We really enjoyed these entrees and shared all of them.

For dessert my dh ordered the chocolate hazelnut torte with raspberry ripple ice cream, my daughter ordered the strawberry souffle with creme fraiche ice cream and strawberry sauce and with this she ordered a glass of Moscato d'Asti. I had the sticky toffee pudding with carmelized dates, ice cream and caramel sauce which was served with a candle. I ordered a cup of coffee with cream to go with dessert. The desserts were all fantastic.

We were so happy and full from a perfect meal. The check arrived with a very reasonable total and three little petit fours that were divine. The staff were pleasant and no one rushed us through our meal. I am already planning to go back for dinner soon.

I thank Bostongal for the recommendation and am so glad that we went there on my birthday.

I am happy to help a fellow chowhound and I am so pleased you enjoyed it!

I think Troquet is one of the consistently best in the city and never disappoints.

I am so glad they have put the suckling pig back on the menu...it was off the last time I went and I was very sad as it is my favorite dish! I love this place and you are reminding me I need to go back soon...
