After a few less than stellar experiences, you think I'd know enough to stay away from King West restaurants. Last week, another disappointment.... Verona.
We visited this restaurant as a colleague wanted Italian and we were near the theatre district. The meal we had was nothing spectacular, just adequate. However, the item that I would like to address is the service. I can understand getting an order wrong once in a while, but twice in the same night??
1. Ordered prosciutto wrapped seared scallops and received prosciutto and melon.
2. Ordered daily special... veal chop with jumbo shrimp (ordered rare) and received veal marsala.
Obviously both were sent back. It was very annoying to my dinner companions who had the choice to go ahead and eat or have their dinners sit under the heat lamp. They chose the latter against my advice.
Here's the rub.... although the maitre d' apologized for the mix up and explained the server was new, there was no effort to to make amends. Am I wrong to expect a comp such as: bottle of wine, entree or dessert taken off the bill? In this economic downturn, one would think a restaurant would go the extra mile to provide excellent custormer service. This experience and lack of follow up ensured that I will dine there again.
